Unfazed and unabashed about his showy lifestyle, the forty-two-year-old shrugs all criticism. "I belong to Maratha community. Marathas have passion for gold. So have I."
Phuge adds that he has a liking for modern flats and cars, as well.
An imported, white velvet fabric made the base for the shirt that took 15 craftsmen at a local jeweller 17 days to create.
"Though there is gold on its exteriors, it is stitched in such a way that it can be folded and kept inside a shelf like any other shirt," said the jeweller.
Phuge's wife Seema is NCP corporator from Pimpri-Chinchwad. Phuge too harbours political ambitions.
NCP activist has sought party nomination from Shirur Lok Sabha seat. But the party doesn't approve of his ways.
"Our party does not agree with this," says NCP spokesperson Ankush Kakade.
Ask him about his source of income, and Phuge says,"I sold my land at Chakan, where an international airport is coming up and invested the amount in a financial company."
