The minister assured the owners of textile units that there was no proposal to levy any fresh taxes.
When some members of the association sought to know details of the property tax levied by the government, the minister said that the tax to be paid by owners of properties was within reasonable limits. Moreover, the state government has to levy this tax or else the central government will not release funds for certain developmental schemes, he said.
Joshi said that one of his priorities was the revival of the textile industry of Amritsar.
Finished textile products of the city are much sought after in different parts of the country, but due to various factors, including terrorism, the industry collapsed with many manufacturers shutting down their units, he said. "The lost glory of the Amritsar textile industry will be revived at all costs," he added.
