If your wisecracks and one-liners always draw applause in college, here’s your chance to level up and do it in front of a wider audience. Comedian Sorabh Pant and the East India Co.medy are organising a hunt for the funniest college students in the city. Called BCom — Bachelors in Comedy, the event is going to be the first open mic comedy night that’s exclusively for college students.

Pant says, “We have come across so many young kids who have the potential to make it big in the field, but do not get a proper platform to showcase their talent. What they need is a show that is exclusively for them.”

The auditions for the show will take place at the Little Theatre, NCPA, on January 8. Shortlisted students will be trained in scriptwriting and delivery, and the final show will be staged at the Nehru Centre Auditorium on January 17, where they will perform alongside established city comics like Kunal Rao, Sapan Varma and Sahil Shah.

Ask Sorabh what got him thinking of such a show in the first place, and he says, “It’s funny, but we were inspired by those Shiamak Davar Summer Funk shows. We thought we needed a Summer Funk for comedy.”

The artiste also insists that he’d love to further encourage and hone the talents they find through this contest. “The winner will be judged on the basis of his/her script and stage presence, and will also perform with us on three other shows,” he adds.
