Demanding a special session of Parliament to design strict laws to curb crime against women, Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal has accused the Congress of adopting double standards when it comes to the issue of justice for women.
Reminding the Congress of the Katiya kidnapping scandal and Gujarat scandal, Harsimrat alleged that the party has done nothing except paying lip-service to ensure justice for women.

"The Congress has blots of Katiya case and Gujarat sex scandal on its face. It will be futile to seek strict laws to curb crime against women from a party, which can only talk and does not have the courage to make strict laws," said Harsimrat.

"There is a need to call a special session of Parliament. The Congress-led UPA should arrange this session so that the law needed to ensure safety and justice for women can be framed. The Centre should form such a law and then the states should be told to strictly implement such it," the Bathinda MP said. However, she said, she was not very optimistic that the UPA government would consider her suggestions.

Harsimrat called upon people to maintain freedom of women in society. "Youngsters should come forward to raise awareness in society on issues related to women. We should work to change the mindset of people."

She claimed that the Shiromani Akali Dal is ready for the parliamentary elections any time. "We are the party that never remains cut off from people. The Congress is used to go to people at the time of elections only to seek votes. Otherwise, they have no concern for the common man."

"I have installed a complaint box at my Bathinda office and any person can submit complaint against anyone. I will ensure proper investigation into each complaint that could be made against any official of the government on any issue," said Harsimrat.

She held Sangat Darshan programmes at Fatuhi Wala, Singhe Wala, Gagar, Mithri, Budhgir, Bedowal and Mann villages of Lambi constituency. Muktsar deputy commissioner Paramjit Singh and SSP Surjit Singh accompanied Harsimrat during her tour to these villages.
