According to a directive of the court, the police has to file a compliance report by 10:30 am on Wednesday stating whether they have returned the children to the custody of the Bhattacharyas.
Since April last year, the children are being brought up by uncle Arunabhas, a dentists by profession, who lives in Kulti, about 250 km to the north of Kolkata.
On Tuesday, Sagarika Bhattacharya, the mother of the children along with her parents Monotosh and Sikha Chakraborty went to Kulti with a few policemen, picked up the children and left for Kolkata.
The police were directed by the Child Welfare Committee to ensure transfer of custody of the children from the uncle to the mother. Her mission accomplished, Sagarika left Kulti with the children around 2 pm.
Great drama followed when after a couple of hours the court ruled that the brother and sister have to be immediately returned to the custody of the uncle at Kulti.
Sources from the Kulti police station told Hindustan Times they were looking for Sagarika and her parents who have taken the children away.
