A day after the beheading of a soldier and slitting the throat of another one by the Pak army, there was a lot of tension in villages along the Atma and Chatir posts, in Mendhar sector, where the incident had taken place.

The army has been put on alert and intensified patrolling is taking place. "The tension after such incident is quite understandable. However, they are not in a state of panic because the area witnessed heavy shelling and casualities in the past also, especially before the 2003 ceasefire agreement," sub-divisional police officer (Mendhar) Dy SP Amit Bhasin said.

According to reports, the villagers of Patri, Mankote Taui and Baluni - which are in the vicinity of the troubled spot - didn't step outside. The army is also checking the area.

According to officials, villagers fear that the situation could worsen because  anger among army officials is running high.  There is a feeling among the residents that India should deliver an effective response.

"It's a deliberate and heinous attempt by the Pakistan to disturb peace. It doesn't want us villagers to live in peace. India should give an effective and suitable response of this action," said Shamas din, sarpanch of Mankote village.

Many believe that the action of Pakistan's 29 Balouch regiment personnel, which is posted in front of the Indian posts, is  indicative of their Talibanised mindset."Balochistan, which borders Afghanistan, is infested by Taliban members. India should not lie low. It should give an appropriate response," said Hadam Hussai, panchayat head of Balnoi village.
