Police claim to have solved the murder case of Balwant Kaur (60), an NRI, with the arrest of her daughter-in-law Amandeep Kaur.
The police produced the accused in the court on Thursday, which sent her to the one-day police remand. According to the police, the accused confessed to the crime. They have also recovered the kitchen knife, which was used in the crime, from her possession.

Police officials claimed that Balwant was demanding details of the money she had transferred from abroad and also scolded Amandeep Kaur for over expenses.

Sub-inspector Amandeep Singh, SHO of Sadar police station, said the accused revealed that on January 1 her mother-in-law scolded her over the issue. Things turned worse when Balwant started abusing her. In the fit of rage, Amandeep Kaur attacked her with a kitchen knife.

Balwant confronted her in self-defence and as a result, Amandeep Kaur also suffered injuries.

The SHO said after confirming Balwant's death, Amandeep Kaur cooked up a story and locked herself in the bathroom and raised the alarm. She claimed that four unidentified assailants killed her mother-in-law and also injured her. She had locked herself in the bathroom along with her children to save them from the assailants.

The SHO claimed that Amandeep Kaur kept changing her statements. When the police posed harsh against her, she admitted to her crime.
