Deputy commissioner Rajat Aggarwal on Saturday expressed serious concern over drug addiction in the district and asked officials to come up with a concrete plan to control this menace and bring back addicts into the mainstream.
Addressing a meeting of officials of the civil, police and health departments and senior faculty members of Government Medical College here, he asked the police to formulate a concrete plan to check the sale of drugs in the district, particularly in the city. Likewise, steps must be taken to put all those trading in drugs behind bars, he said.

He also directed the police to step up vigil in drug-prone areas like Maqboolpura. He asked civil surgeon Dr Yash Mitra to set up a counselling centre for addicts in Maqboolpura. A mobile health unit must be stationed in Maqboolpura for collecting and testing blood and urine samples of addicts, he said.

The DC said the health department should set up drug de-addiction units in every community health centre in the district. He also interacted with doctors of the medical college involved in the drug de-addiction programme of the government.
