The official told that when the Chinese security forces tried to take away the body of the self-immolator, the Tibetans gathered at the protest site to protect his body.
"The last information heard from Tibet said the Tibetans gathered there are performing the last rites according to Buddhist tradition and would be later cremated," said the official.
Meanwhile, regional chapter of Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) and Regional Tibetan Women Association (RTWA) held a candlelight vigil in McLeodganj near Dharamsala to mourn the death and express the solidarity with the self-immolator.
"All the 96 self-immolators have demanded freedom for Tibet and called on the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama," said Tashi Lamsang, general secretary of RTYC, adding that Tibetan martyrs have left behind compassionate messages of love and called on the unity within the Tibetan community.
Despite repeated appeals by the exiled leadership urging Tibetans not to resort to drastic actions, over 96 Tibetans have immolated themselves since 2009, calling for the return of spiritual leader the Dalai Lama to Tibet and freedom for Tibetans.
