The city reported yet another crime against women. But this time the victim's former husband was the perpetrator — he allegedly created fake profiles in her name on adult websites.
The couple had separated in March 2011, just months after their marriage.
The woman, who now lives
with her parents in south Delhi's Sangam Vihar, on Monday lodged a complaint with the cyber cell of Delhi police's crime branch, accusing her husband of the act.
The victim in her complaint alleged that for the past couple of days she had been receiving a series of calls from unknown numbers and the callers were offering sexual proposals.
On the basis of her complaint, a case under sections 66 A and 67 of the Information Technology Act has been registered at the cyber cell, said a police officer. The victim's husband, Ashwani Gautam, a resident of Agra in Uttar Pradesh (UP), has been named as the prime suspect in the FIR.
A senior police officer said the woman had first approached the local Sangam Vihar police station with her complaint. Her complaint was then transferred to the cyber cell, as the offence was related to cyber crime.
The woman told the police that she had separated from her husband, who is tech savvy, because of his continuous demands for dowry followed by physical torture and sexual harassment, said a senior police officer.
“She alleged that her husband had created fake profiles on various adult websites, in which he had also uploaded her mobile number and some obscene messages,” a police official said.
“The victim then started receiving unwanted calls from unknown numbers. When she asked the callers about the source through which they got her contact number and other personal details, some of them told her that the details were on some adult websites,” the officer said, adding the victim had checked one of the adult websites and found her own fake profile.
The police are now investigating the matter.
