It has been learnt that there are more than 25 officials of the MC who are facing vigilance as well as departmental inquiries, but are still serving on public dealing posts. Some of these officials were arrested red-handed, but later they started serving on the same seats.
Interestingly, the court had ordered a two-year jail term and asked Lal Singh to deposit a sum of Rs. 5,500 as penalty in October 2009, but he again started his service with the MC without any orders from the department of local bodies.
Singh was even served a show- cause notice by the former MC commissioner, MS Jaggi, but no action was taken against him.
However, taking a strict action Verma has given a blow to those involved in criminal cases and inquiries going on against them.
"Lal Singh has been dismissed on corruption charges. The case was going on for the past sometime, but I issued the orders for his dismissal on Wednesday. He was convicted by the court and hence was dismissed from the MC," Verma said.
The vigilance as well as the local bodies departments have failed in taking any action against officials who are under the scanner and this is evident from the fact that inquiries against some of them are going on for the past 12 years. Many employees include senior officials of the MC who have retired now.
