Before hitting theatres in India, director Abhishek Kapoor’s upcoming project, Kai Po Che, will have an international premiere at Berlin International Film Festival.

The film, which features relatively new faces from the industry, will be screened on February 13 at the 10-day festival that begins on February 7.

Talking about being part of such a reputed festival, producer Siddharth Roy Kapoor, MD, Studios, Disney UTV, says, “We are incredibly proud that Kai Po Che has been selected for a world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival. What is even more commendable is that it is the only Indian film among the official selection list announced by the festival this year. For a film dependent entirely on its content, rather than its line up of stars, this is a huge achievement.”

Kai Po Che is Abhishek’s second film after Rock On!! (2008). It is based on the Chetan Bhagat’s book The Three Mistakes Of My Life. “We’ve put our heart and soul into this movie, and bringing to life an inspiring story set in contemporary India. I feel most gratified to be recognised by an august gathering of peers representing the finest cinematic talent worldwide,” says Abhishek.

The film revolves around the journey of three friends, portrayed by Sushant Singh Rajput, Raj Kumar Yadav and Amit Sadh, and is set against the backdrop of religious politics in the state of Gujarat. Amrita Puri is the only female lead in the film, which will release on February 22.
