Once again the general category students have been left with no other option but to look at government schools as the number of seats in the general category were reduced to a handful during the draw of lots for entry-level admissions at four missionary schools on Thursday.
category seats have been reduced marginally in the missionary schools, but the situation is worst in St Kabir Public School, Sector 26, where only 15 out of 90 seats were kept for general category, while 22 seats have been given to economically weaker section and the rest have been reserved under siblings, alumni and teacher quota.
"The school is misusing the right given by the department. They have not given us enough seats and it seems like we are the most underprivileged section," said Rajiv Malhotra, a parent who had come for admission of his child.
Meanwhile, some parents were disheartened as their children could not get through in the draw of lots and some blamed it on reservation.
In Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Sector 26, 55 out of 200 seats were given to the general category, while 25% were reserved for the EWS children and the rest for siblings' quota.
In Carmel Convent School, 53 out of 120 seats were kept for the general category, while in St Anne's Convent School, 100 out of 230 seats were given to the general category and in St John's High School, 95 out of 160 seats were kept for the general category.
Ranjana Agnihotri, a parent in front of Sacred Heart School, said, "There is no option but to wait for other private schools or else I have to admit my child in a government school because the scene is disheartening in all missionary schools."
History repeats in St Kabir
In 2011, a group of parents had filed a petition against St Kabir Public School in the high court challenging the admission process of the school, in which they had reserved very less seats under the general category.
The list of draw of lots at St Kabir mentioned that out of the total of 90 seats in the school at the entry level, 40 had been awarded to sibling cases, four to teaching staff children and eight to alumni children with only 18 seats awarded in the general category, who had no relation with the school in any way, with seven in the waiting list. This year, the seats in the general category have been reduced to 15 only.
