A court here on Sunday remanded Himachal Pradesh legislator Ram Kumar Chaudhary in judicial remand. The MLA from Doon constituency, who along with four others is an accused in the murder of Hoshiarpur woman Jyoti, has now been sent to a prison in Ambala.
Earlier, the court rejected a plea of the Panchkula police for his two-day remand.  Jyoti, a former employee of Chaudhary, was found dead on a road near Sector 21 in Panchkula on November 22. Her head was smashed.

Police officials investigating the case claimed that Chaudhary was in a relationship with Jyoti and used to transfer money into her bank account. Police in Panchkula have so far booked Chaudhary and four others - Tilak Raj, Paramjeet, Dharampal and Gurmeet Singh - for the murder. Police had tried to arrest Chaudhary by raiding various places in Himachal since early December but he had evaded arrest.  Due to his arrest in the case, Chaudhary has been unable to take oath as a legislator. He has sought permission from the court to take oath as an assembly member.
