On Monday, Gadkari’s chartered accountant Ravi Chincholkar appeared before the office of Geeta Ravichandran, director (Investigation) of Income Tax department in Nagpur and sought adjournment for producing more relevant documents and other proofs, informed Gadkari’s personal assistant Sudhir Deulgaonkar.
The I-T has been probing various firms that invested into Purti Power and Sugar Ltd, floated by Gadkari and the I-T probe team has sent a report in this regard to the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
The department has reportedly found details of several companies that have transacted with Purti.
It was revealed that Gadkari’s driver, one astrologer and a bakery employee Rajesh Khanzode were directors in Purti’s investor companies. Among them, Manohar Panse, Gadkari’s driver for 15 years, is the director on five of Purti’s investor companies.
Deulgaonkar said that Gadkari resigned from the Purti group few years ago and he was not involved in the matter. He maintained that there was no need for personal appearance for Gadkari in this matter.
Gadkari's CA, Chincholkar was not available for comments.
The issue may embarrass Gadkari in the wake of the notification of BJP presidential poll since he is likely to file his nomination on January 23. The RSS has already endorsed his re-nomination as the party chief despite reservations by the party veteran LK Advani and others.
