"Initially, the case was totally blind and we had no clue about the criminals who could be involved in it. However, the investigation team managed to unearth the fact that Ashok had solemnized a love marriage, some years ago and had strained relations with his in-laws," Ojha said.
According to the police, the six arrested men were traced to the same location on January 19 and taken in for questioning, during which they contradicted themselves, before confessing. "They were subjected to sustained interrogation during which they revealed even though they had accepted the match in addition to a baby girl born to the couple, Ashok kept taunting them," Ojha said.
It was his apparently unsolicited taunts, they told the police, which made them hatch a plot to murder him.
