"Working mothers from poor background have no option but to leave their children at home when they go to work. These children face multiple disadvantages and risks. Besides suffering mentally and physically due to lack of care, they are also easy targets of anti-social elements," said BS Jaiswal, DCP (outer).
"And, unfortunately, education also takes a backseat. These kids deserve much better and 'Phulwari', a joint venture of the Delhi Police and the community will provide a safe and healthy environment to children of working mothers and will protect them from possible abuse," he added. Currently, the northern range of Delhi Police runs two such centres at Mangolpuri and Jahangirpuri, where children of the age group 3-6 are being provided with learning and other facilities.
So far, 60 underprivileged children have been enrolled under this initiative. The police will open more such centres in other parts of the city.
