A B-tech student allegedly raped a minor girl in his village in district Palwal two days ago. The accused was arrested and sent to jail on Monday.

Police said the incident took place around 11 pm on January 19 when the 16-year-old victim, a  student of class 11, stepped out of her house in Hassanpur area in Palwal district.

Police said a youth in her neighbourhood, a B-tech student in a Gurgaon college, covered her mouth with a piece of cloth and took her to a secluded house in the same village and raped her.

The boy is reported to have fled after committing the crime. The victim rushed back to her house and narrated the incident to her mother. Police said her mother informed her husband, who works in a private company in Faridabad. He reported the matter to police.

"After a medical examination of the girl confirmed rape, we registered a case. We finally nabbed the accused on Sunday. He was remanded in judicial custody after being produced in a local court on Monday," said a senior police officer.
