Resignation talk by ministers and former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa’s (BSY’s) plans to put chief minister Jagadish Shettar in a tight squeeze have landed the state BJP in fresh trouble.

Energy minister Shobha Karandlaje, a Yeddyurappa loyalist, gave hints she would resign ahead of the meeting planned at the latter’s residence on Wednesday.

“I am proud and have the satisfaction of performing well during my tenure ... I am leaving the department. It is my last day (Tuesday), hopefully, in office,” Karandlaje told reporters in Bangalore.

BSY is striking aggressive postures though he had earlier said he would not disturb the government unless the chief minister committed any blunder. Now his fear is that a people-friendly budget will erode much of his popular support.

The Yeddyurappa camp has been claiming the support of 20-30 BJP MLAs and set deadlines, which turned out to be damp squibs because the legislators apparently developed cold feet over quitting the party ahead of the assembly elections due in May.
