The Samajwadi Party in its 2012 assembly elections manifesto had promised to give laptops to the 12th class pass students while tablets were promised to 10th class pass students.
The procurement of laptops has been approved while the process to procure tablets is also underway.
Chief minister presided over the meeting of the state cabinet that also approved the Uttar Pradesh Solar Energy Policy 2013 and decided to convene the budget session of the state legislature from February 12, 2013.
“HP had quoted the lowest price,” said chief minister while informing media persons about the state cabinet’s decision to give go ahead to the procurement of laptops from the HP.
As per the decision the UP Electronics Corporation will procure 15 lakh laptops from the HP that had quoted the lowest price of Rs. 19,058 (including all the taxes and duties) per laptop.
The state government will now ask the corporation to issue the letter of intent to the HP.
The state cabinet approved the sugar industry, co generation and distillery promotion policy 2013 to attract private investment in the sugar industry sector.
Chief minister said the production of sugarcane had gone up in the state and his government would boost private investment in the sector. No new sugar mills had been set up in the state during the previous regime, he said.
The state cabinet approved the Uttar Pradesh (suspension of conviction of prisoners) (first amendment) Rules 2012 to allow 72-hour parole to the convicts to enable them attend marriage ceremonies in their families. So fat the powers to grant parole vested with the state government.
