Three months after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accompanied top industrialists to Jammu & Kashmir to address the employment concerns of the local youth, the Union cabinet is set to relax norms for industries to train and hire them.
  With 3,375 J&K youths waiting government clearances for corporate training, the cabinet on Thursday is likely to allow the companies to conduct vocational courses through professional agencies or industry associations. The companies will also be allowed to undertake training programmes with the state and employ the candidates anywhere in India.

The duration of training is also likely to be reduced to six months from nine months period to promote faster employment. The home ministry, according to the cabinet proposal, will also allocate Rs. 7.5 crore for mobilisation of candidates, the marketing and administration of the job scheme for over 5 years.

Indo-Bangla extradition treaty may get go-ahead

In a major move to strengthen the growing security cooperation with its neighbour, the UPA government is set to clear the extradition treaty with Bangladesh at the cabinet meeting on Thursday. The clearance of the pact comes ahead of external affairs minister Salman Khurshid’s proposed visit to Dhaka in mid-February.
