The Gauhati high court has ordered a CBI probe against an Assam minister for allegedly harassing and torturing two sisters by having them branded as witches with the intent of grabbing their land.   Radhika Shah, 20, and her sister Gayatri, 18, wrote to the high court last May, accusing Khor Sing Engti of trying to grab their land in a village in Karbi Anglong district through hired goons and torturing them by branding them as witches.

Engti, Howraghat MLA, is minister for hill areas development in the Tarun Gogoi cabinet.

The court directed the CBI to conduct a probe and submit its report in three months. They also asked the Karbi Anglong district police chief to provide security to the two women and their aged parents.

Nagpur: The Nagpur bench of the Bombay high court on Wednesday sentenced a married 30-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping a young girl.

2 minor girls raped

Bihar: Two minor girls were raped in Sitamarhi and East Champaran districts of north Bihar on Monday. In the rape case of East Champaran district, the girl was three years old.

Dalit girl molested

Bathinda: A Dalit girl, 20, was allegedly molested in a moving bus by some youths on Tuesday in Muktsar. The driver and conductor, who came to rescue the girl, were also beaten up.

Teen shoots minor

Kolkata: A 14-year-old boy on Tuesday shot dead a seven-year-old boy in Titagarh, around 20 km from Kolkata, after the victim allegedly used abusive language at woman members of the killer’s family. The police found that the problem arose out of a tiff between the families.
