The education department has asked all deputy commissioners and SSPs across the state to regulate the use of loudspeakers in religious institutions. Director general school education Kahan Singh Pannu has written a letter to all officials.
"Students work hard. However, it is found that religious places in villages and cities play prayers on loudspeakers early morning and in the evening, affecting srudents' concentration," Pannu said.

The Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, state that loudspeakers are not allowed to be played in open. He said that it was the duty of area SHO, magistrate and SDO of Punjab Pollution Control Board to take action against defaulters in their areas under Section 133 and Section 268, 290, 291 of CrPc which have six-month imprisonment and fine.
