The horticulture department of the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) is unable to carry out maintenance work in many green belts in the absence of senor officers.
As many as six posts of junior engineers (JEs) have been lying vacant in the department for the past three years, when the government added four new posts of JEs in view of expansion of the city from sector 58 to sector 115. Earlier, the Gurgaon district used to have only two JEs.

According to officials, only one executive engineer (EE) along with two sub-divisional officers (SDOs) and a handful of malis and servants is taking care of the entire Gurgaon division, which also includes Rewari district.

The existing officials are supposed to look after the vast green covers across 50 Huda sectors.

In the absence of officers, maintaining the green belts has become a major challenge for the department. The work involves plantation of saplings, watering, tendering of new projects, barricading green areas, constructing pathways and maintenance of fountains.

DPS Nagal, chief administrator Huda, could not be reached for comments.

“I am not in a position to tell the reason behind not recruiting the JEs,” said HS Malik, superintending engineer (SE), horticulture, Huda, Panchkula.
