The boy alleged that he was beaten up and threatened of with dire consequences if he told someone about the incident. “The teacher locked up the boy inside the room for the whole night,” a senior police officer said.
According to the police, another student opened the door next morning. He was taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and his parents were informed by his friend. “The family informed us and we recorded the boy’s statement. The accused was arrested under the newly implemented Protection of Children from Sexual Offences’ (POCSO) Act and has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code,” the officer added.
“We have asked the education department and the Child Welfare Committee what action they have taken,” said Arun Mathur, DCPCR chairman.
Mathur said that in case an inquiry is not initiated by the education department, the commisison will order an inquiry into the matter. The Child Welfare Committee maintained that they had arranged a counsellor for the boy.
“It is likely that the accused teacher might have abused many other children. The government should investigate the matter,” Raj Mangal Prasad, a child right activists said.
