Several arterial roads and key locations in New Delhi will be out of bounds for commuters on Republic Day.
The traffic police have made elaborate arrangements to ensure free and uninterrupted movement of the traffic along the route of the R-Day parade.
Starting at Vijay
Chowk, the parade will go via Rajpath, India Gate, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg up to Red Fort.
“Only labeled vehicles of the invitees and vehicles of bonafide residents of this area will be permitted to enter from 6 am till the end of the parade around 12.30pm. Invitees are requested to follow the routes and instructions to reach the parking lots,” said Satyendra Gargh, joint commissioner of police (traffic).
No vehicles will be allowed to ply on Rajpath after 6pm Friday till the closure of function on Saturday. No traffic will be allowed on Tilak Marg, BSZ Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg up to Red Fort after 4am on the Republic Day, traffic police said.
However, cross traffic on the route of the parade at Dr. Dineshnandini Dalmia Chowk (W. point) R.C. Aggarwal Chowk (A-Point), Delhi Gate and beyond will be allowed depending on the progress of the parade.
There is a park & ride Scheme for invitees of certain categories at football ground of Central Civil Services Sports and Cultural Board Ground (south of Rajpath) and Underground Palika Parking, Connaught Place.
Services of Delhi Metro will be partially curtailed on Saturday and Tuesday (for Beating the Retreat ceremony) as part of the security arrangements for the Republic Day celebrations.
Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan, Race Course, Barakhamba Road, Mandi House, Pragati Maidan and Khan Market Metro stations will remain closed from 6am to 12.30pm. Rajiv Chowk station will only be used for interchange of passengers between Line 2 and Line 3. Central Secretariat station will only be used for interchange of passengers between Line 2 and Line 6.
