It turned out nothing was safe from these culprits, not even the floor – with one hotel guest liking a Las Vegas hotel carpet so much that it was cut out completely and was taken along with them, while leaving the hotel.
Meanwhile a guest at a five-star Dubai hotel liked its mini-bar options so much that they took the entire fridge with them, along with a sofa.
Another guest stole the rain shower heads, hydro massage shower units, taps, interior plumbing, sink... and toilet seats from a Berlin hotel.
A luxury Istanbul hotel reported that one of its guests emptied the entire room of its fittings and furniture, except for the bed, desk and TV.
“Some even developed enlightened enthusiasm to dislodge every single bulb in a room as reported by several hotels,” the survey said.
Artworks, heavy statues and sculptures and antiques were also among the items stolen from hotels and even a cigarette machine was also stolen.
One guest at a Dublin hotel stole all the wrapped presents under a Christmas tree only to find the boxes were empty.
According to hotel website, it takes a lot of planning to try to pull off such acts.
“In some cases the theft is very much premeditated, with guests apparently packing their tool bag to remove some items,” Kathy Dover from lastminute.com in the UK said.
