Always wanted someone to stand up to those goons who, in the name of upholding Indian culture, go smashing shops and foaming in their mouths on Valentine’s Day? Well, help, of sorts, is here this year from unexpected quarters — the National Panthers Party (NPP).

Armed with red chillies and pepper, activists of the Jammu-headquartered party have announced that they would be lying in wait across Delhi on February 14 to take on those opposing and obstructing Valentine’s Day.

“The party has decided to oppose fundamentalist and communal elements that indulge in moral policing and don’t allow the youth to celebrate the day of red roses,” said Delhi NPP chief Sanjoy Sachdev.

Apart from issuing ‘beat on sight’ orders, the NPP has also sought police help in protecting those who want to celebrate Valentine’s Day. “If red chillies and pepper fail to scare away the obstructers, our activists will resort to judo and karate tactics,” said Sachdeva, the self-appointed patron saint of lovers. “And this will continue till police arrest the trouble makers,” he added.

The party will set up a control room closer to V-Day. It has even coined a slogan for the occasion: ‘Nirbhay ho kar manao Valentine’s Day’ (Celebrate Valentine’s Day without any fear). And what if the police stop these ‘brave’ NPP activists from helping Delhi’s youngsters to celebrating the day of love? It would then, according to Sachdev, file a case against the police.
