Q: Apart from New Delhi railway station, other stations in the Capital don't seem to get much attention.
We have improved these stations significantly with dedicated plans. We're relentlessly working to improve passenger amenities. Our 90% focus is on safe operations, which
often goes unnoticed.
Q: Railway tracks at the Old Delhi station are extremely dirty.
The problem is at platform number 1. For some technical reasons, we could not build a washing facility. We're working to build the facility before this monsoon.
Q: What is being done to remove congestion at the entrance?
A second entry has been redesigned and improved towards Kashmere Gate. The premises towards Chandni Chowk Town Hall main side has been improved. DTC buses now pick up passengers from the station itself.
Q: Entries to Hzt Nizamuddin and Sarai Rohilla stations are very congested.
Most of the traffic from Noida and Ghaziabad comes to Nizamuddin via Sarai Kale Khan. We're trying to improve that entry point. We're also constructing a new platform. Access to Sarai Rohilla station is a major issue because of gated colonies. We're shifting the landing of a foot-over bridge, near Liberty Cinema on the New Rohtak Road, to provide seamless passage up to the station. Work is on.
Q: Mobility is a big issue. What's being done about it?
By June 2013, we will start three escalators at Old Delhi and two at Hazrat Nizamuddin even before escalators are installed at the New Delhi station.
Q: Monkeys are a big menace at Old Delhi station. No passenger feels safe.
Yes, that's been an area of concern for a while now. But it's not within our jurisdiction. We have asked the forest department to do something about the problem.
Q: There's no pre-paid taxi service at Anand Vihar station.
We have initiated the process. We're in talks with the transport department to start the service.
