The IPL is making Team India less interested in Test cricket
This refers to the report Can Team India get any worse? (December 9). The Indian cricket team has been performing poorly in the ongoing Test series against England. Going by their individual as well as
collective performances, it’s clear that our players are not interested in playing the long form of the game. The rising popularity of Twenty20 cricket could be one reason for this. Even senior players, like Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and MS Dhoni, haven’t been able to perform well. This means that the entire team needs to work hard to win the fourth Test match and every player needs to get back into form quickly.

No party has a definite ideology
This refers to the editorial There are no free lunches (Our Take, December 8). The recent debate on FDI in retail in Parliament makes one thing clear: no major party in India has a definite political ideology. The Congress, which opposed FDI in retail during the NDA rule, did not leave any stone unturned to win the vote on FDI now. The SP and the BSP voted in favour of the government even when they are opposed to foreign investment. And the BJP, which moved the motion against FDI in Parliament, had proposed the idea in the first place when it was in power. All this makes the common man lose confidence in Parliament.

The introduction to Darryl D’Monte’s article Not making a cut (December 9) mistakenly states that developing countries backed out of their commitments at the Doha climate summit. It should have said that developed countries have backed out of their commitments. The error is regretted.
