LS polls to ensure Capt’s political farewell: Badal

Amid the ongoing verbal duel between BJP candidate Arun Jaitley and his opponent Capt Amarinder Singh, Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal also launched an offensive by saying that 2014 Lok Sabha polls in Amritsar will ensure a ‘final farewell’ to Capt Amarinder Singh from politics.

The Punjab chief minister, who was addressing a rally along with Arun Jaitley, said, “Capt Amarinder is doing what he is known for. He is just threatening the Akalis. People of Punjab know him well and have rejected him many times. This time, the Amritsar election will ensure ‘final farewell’ to Amarinder from Politics.”

Urging people to vote for Arun Jaitley, Badal said, “We all must ensure that the way Amarinder’s son was defeated in last Lok Sabha polls, this time Amarinder is also shown the door the same way.”

The Chief Minister said, “There was no intention to bring Harsimrat Kaur Badal into politics. But Amarinder repeatedly challenged the Badal family and people rejected his son.”

Claiming that the NDA government can change the fate of Punjab, Badal said, “We have brought Jaitley Saab to Punjab and requested him to contest the election. So this is our duty to support him. I request you that the way you all defeated Amarinder’s son by over one lakh votes, we must ensure more emphatic win for Jaitley.”

Badal, who accused Congress of remaining biased towards Punjab, said Amarinder was not ready to contest but contested due to the fear of ‘Hunter Wali Bibi’ (referring Sonia Gandhi).

Addressing the gathering, the BJP candidate Arun Jaitley targeted the UPA government, especially
Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for being ‘weak’ and dependent on the Gandhi family.

“The position of Prime Minister was dwarfed in the UPA regime, as all orders were taken from the Gandhi family. Today the situation is such that the Congress is reluctant to use the Prime Minister even for campaigning. Today, Dr. Manmohan Singh is not even coming to his home town (Amritsar) to campaign for his party’s candidate.”

Jaitley yet again termed Capt. Amarinder Singh a reluctant candidate and said that the position of Congress was such that it even found tough to get candidates.

Promising that the NDA Government will look into the interests of the farmers along the borders, Jaitley, said, “I can assure that if NDA government is formed, a compensation package will be there for the farmers along the border.”
Earlier, sitting MP from Khadoor Sahib, Dr. Rattan Singh, who was denied ticket this time, also addressed the gathering. He also attacked Amarinder by saying that before pointing fingers at others, Capt. must look at himself.
Senior Akali leader Naresh Gujral, Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Amarpal Singh Bony and former MP Tarlochan Singh were also present.
