The Akal Takht has taken a serious note of its former jathedar Darshan Singh Ragi, an excommunicated member of the community, being invited to religious and social functions.

In a statement issued here on Friday, Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh sought to remind the Sikh community that Ragi had been excommunicated from the 'panth' through a 'hukamnama' issued from the Akal Takht in 2010.

"The 'hukamnama' still stands, as Ragi had never approached the Akal Takht for forgiveness. It is the duty of every Sikh to abide by this directive", the Jathedar stated.

Without referring to any instances, the Jathedar said that there were reports that Ragi was being invited for religious functions and for performing 'kirtan'. This is a clear violation of the 'hukamnama' which clearly prohibits any form of association (social boycott) with an excommunicated individual, he added.

The Jathedar warned all the 'panthic' committees and 'sabhas' that its members would be summoned before the Akal Takht if they do not abide by the directive against Ragi.

Ragi was excommunicated for airing his views on the 'Dasam Granth' during a function in a gurdwara in the United States in 2010. The Akal Takht prohibits any discussion on the 'Dasam Granth' as there are still doubts about its authenticity, as to whether the now available scripture is the original one that was authored by Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Master.
