For the people of Majha, it's time to arm-wrestle!
Giving a platform to the rural youth of Majha belt to show their arm-strength, 92.7 BIG FM announced the launch of 'Ambuja Cement BIG Panjaa League' at a press conference here on Friday.
The unique event invites the strongest and fittest citizens of the region to participate in an arm-wrestling championship during the on-ground contests, which will be held across seven towns in the Majha region of Punjab starting December 1. The winner in the grand finale will walk away with a cash award of Rs 50,000.
While addressing the conference, Manav Seth, station head, 92.7 Big FM; Ajay Srivastava from Ambuja Cement and Lakhbir Singh, general secretary, All India Arm Wrestling Federation, said local on-ground competitions would be held via specially-designed vans which would travel across Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Batala, Patti, Tarn Taran and Ferozepur Cantonment, and also local gyms and akharas, colleges and many more locations in the region.
"The competition will be held in two categories -- lightweight championship for contestants below 70kg and heavyweight championship for those above 70kg. Those interested can register themselves at the van. The winners of the local championships will participate in the grand finale for the BIG Panjaa League to be held in Amritsar in January 2013," said Srivastava.
Meanwhile, Entertainment Channel Spark Punjabi also announced the launch of three new shows - Rasoi Di Rani, BIG Punjabi Jodiyan and BIG Fame Star. Rasoi Di Rani will be hosted by chef Rakesh Sethi and will be a face-off between two Indian housewives.
BIG Punjabi Jodiyan will feature a quiz that tests the understanding between couples. The show will be hosted by RJ-cum-VJ Dhanveer and will be on air from December 10.
BIG Fame Star is a hunt for the youth star in the Punjabi region. The on-ground auditions will be held across six cities and the winner of the show will be awarded a special show on Spark Punjabi and a show on 92.7 BIG FM. The auditions will begin mid-December across the markets of Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Patiala and Bathinda.
