Arrangements completed regarding Guru Nanak wedding anniversary

The local administration claimed to have completed all the arrangements regarding the forthcoming 527th marriage ceremony of first Guru, Guru Nanak Dev ji, popularly known as "Babe Da Viah", which is going to celebrate on September 1 in this industrial city.

 
It is to be noted that Guru Nanak Dev was married to Mata Sulakhni, daughter of Mul Chand, a Chona Khatri of Batala in 1487 at Batala. The ceremonies were a grand affair as Sulakhni was daughter of a revenue official. However, Guru Nanak Dev refused to follow the marriage rituals dictated by Brahmin of that era. He and Sulakhni took four rounds instead of the seven prescribed around the sacred fire.
 
To ensure proper law and order system and to provide better facilities to the lakhs of devotees, who were going to participate in this grand ceremony, SSP, Batala, Maninder Singh alongwith SDM, Batala JS Grewal on Friday hold a meeting with head of various religious bodies and seek their advise.
 
Speaking on the occasion, SSP told that the local police has made elaborated security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident during the marriage anniversary procession which would be started from Gurudwara Dera sahib where the Guru Nanak marriage party was stayed during his marriage and marriage procession would be terminated at Gurudwara Kand sahib where his marriage was solemized after passing through main Bazars of city.
 
He said that more than 2,000 police personnel from Gurdaspur, Batala and Pathankot police district were going to be deployed in various parts of the town and total of 85 special nakas have been put up on each and every entry of the city which would work around the clock.
 
Besides, four superintendent of police, 15 DSPs, and 60 ASI have been deployed on the duty to maintain law and order situation. He said that police has made a special control room and town has been divided into 9 sectors and each sectors would be supervised a DSP. Besides, he would personally watch each and every moment all over the town.
 
Meanwhile, SDM, JS Grewal told that on the orders of deputy commissioner, Gurdaspur, Abnivan Trikha, all  liquor vends will remain closed on August 31 and September 1. 
 
On the other hand, the health department also made special arrangements in case of any eventually for this purpose, senior medical officer Dr Sukhdeep Singh told that ten medical teams have been pressed into the service and each team which includes a doctor, pharmacist, nurse, a class four and a driver and an ambulance. One of such medical team would accompany the marriage procession on the way of marriage procession and eight of them teams would deploy on different points of the town and remaining team would be stationed at emergency department in Civil hospital.
