Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh may have skipped campaign in Punjab and also in his hometown Amritsar during this high pitch Lok Sabha polls, but with a day left for hectic campaign to end, PM’s step brothers are spotted campaigning actively, but for different parties.
The visit of BJP’s Prime Ministerial Narendra Modi saw PM’s stepbrother Daljit Singh Kohli join the saffron party, bringing an embarrassment to the Manmohan Singh.
However a day after, PM’s another stepbrother Surjit Kohli came out saying that leaving aside Daljit, the entire family is backing the Congress party and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
On Saturday, Surjit, who was mostly present with Amarinder, firstly sat in a Press conference with the Congress candidate and later was seen at a road show.
Meanwhile, on Sunday it was the turn of Daljit Singh Kohli, who was included into the BJP by Modi on Friday, to hit campaign. Daljit travelled to village Nag Kalan and was seen campaigning for the BJP candidate Arun Jaitley along with the Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia.
The PM, who was the ‘game changer’ for the Congress party in year 2009 Lok Sabha Polls, may have kept himself away from the campaign this time and even skipped Punjab; but his kin have been hitting headlines.
Although Daljit Singh Kohli, who hasn’t been politically active much, had stressed that he would perform whatever duty he would given by the BJP. And Sunday was the day where he sought votes for Jaitley.
The Manmohan wave gave a much boost to the Congress in Punjab in 2009, but with the PM himself missing this time, the brothers are in action in Amritsar that sees one of the toughest battles of this election.
Both Daljit(65) and Surjeet Kohli (70) are businessmen and reside next to each other in the Loharka road area. The house on the Loharka road looks one from outside, but has a wall in between. The family primarily had business of garments.
Daljit, who joined the BJP, mentioned that he had high regards for the Prime Minister but was upset with the way the Congress leadership intervened in the working of the government. He had also claimed that he was there to support Jaitley.
