City on alert; bus stand, various hotels checked

After twin blasts in Hyderabad on Thursday evening, the holy city was put on alert and police launched an extensive checking spree.


The Amritsar police have heightened the security in the City that hosts more than one lakh tourists every day.

As soon as the day started, city police launched search operations at key locations, including railway station, bus stand and a few markets. Police personnel also checked various hotels and went through the antecedents of the guests staying there.

Talking to HT, Amritsar police commissioner Ram Singh, said, “Definitely security has been heightened and checking was done at the key locations in the city.”

Security in the city had already been stepped up in the wake of British Prime Minister David Cameron's recent visit and now, and now the police have sounded an alert.

A police official said that a close eye was being kept at all key tourist locations and 'nakas' would be put in place to check vehicles, especially those coming from outside the state.
