With an aim to encourage people, especially the first-time voters, to get them enrolled in the voters' list, the district administration on Sunday deputed several teams at 1,920 centres across the district to make enrolment process hassle-free.

The administration's move came following the directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Amritsar deputy commissioner Ravi Bhagat, who inspected various centres where teams were deputed, said: "Following the directions of the EC, teams have been deputed at various centres across the district to encourage the people to get them enrolled in the voters' list, especially those who have attained 18 years of age or above after January 1, 2014."

On an average, 15-20 new applicants completed the required formalities at almost each centre on the opening day.

The officers concerned have been directed by the administration to speed up the process and send the names of new voters to assistant returning officers.

Bhagat, meanwhile, claimed that deletion of votes of those who had died or left the area was also being done.
