Following a serious attack on Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh in Lahore's Kot Lakhpat jail, his family has termed it as a 'conspiracy' to eliminate him and wants the Union government to react immediately.

The family is worried ever since the news came in that Sarabjit was attacked by fellow prisoners in jail and was rushed to a hospital with serious head injury.

"I can't explain what we are going through. This is the worst news we can get and I feel it is a conspiracy against my brother", said Dalbir Kaur, elder sister of Singh adding that the Pakistan government must ensure top medical facilities to my brother and also probe deeply that who all were involved in this sudden attack on him.

The sister, who is making efforts since years to get his brother out of the jail, said, "It is very shocking that how can this happen in a jail. I just want to see my brother and want that Pakistani Government must issue a visa to me and rest of the family members."

Crying over the phone, Sukhpreet Kaur, wife of Sarabjit Singh said, "About a month ago lawyer of my husband had told us that some prisoner in jail has threatened to stab Sarabjit. After that reportedly some efforts were done, but I think this attack on my husband is by the same prisoner."

We are very much worried about the situation and are totally depending on TV for the updates. It is a scary feeling, as my husband is in jail since more than two decades and now this attack has broken us badly."

In an appeal to the Indian Government, Sukhpreet Kaur said, "We are fighting for the release of my husband since years but not much has happened. The Indian government is silent on the issue and that is the reason that he was treated like this."

Sarabjit Singh is lodged in Lahore's Kot Lakhpat Jail since more than two decades and faces death sentence. He was convicted for alleged involvement in a string of bomb attacks in Pakistan that killed 14 people in 1990.

However, fighting for release, the family and his lawyer had claimed that Sarabjit was innocent and his was a case of mistaken identity.

Sources claimed that Sarabjit after being attacked by five inmates has received serious head injury and were likely to be operated at a private hospital.
