Hitting back at his Congress rival Captain Amarinder Singh, BJP candidate Arun Jaitley said, "I only talk of issues while Captain Amarinder talks of persons".
Addressing a press conference along with revenue minister Bikram Majithia, Jaitley said, "The problem with Captain Amarinder Singh is that he just talks of persons and I take up issues.
I came up with my vision on Amritsar, took up the issue of tourism, industry, gold traders of Amritsar, and also gave my take on how to fight the drug menace. But Captain Sahab doesn't seem to understand that."
Reacting to Amarinder's remark that the BJP nominee does not spell out his views on state issues, Jaitley said, "This is an election for Lok Sabha. We are not going to choose the Punjab government in this election.
In these elections, there are national issues and constituency issues that matter. But unfortunately Captain Sahab is silent on major national issues such as misrule by UPA, scams and corruption and also the poor state of the economy. Amarinder is doing politics of desperation".
I AM WITH PUNJAB ON STATE ISSUES: JAITLEY
Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley said, "My stand is very clear. Be it the issue of Chandigarh for Punjab or water issues of the state, I am 100% with Punjab on these issues. I am contesting election from here and I am with the state".
He said, "At times, the national parties do not take a position on the regional issues. And the person who is incharge of the state does what is suitable for the state, he added.
ADMITS DRUGS ADDICTION AN ISSUE IN PUNJAB
Admitting that drug addiction is an issue in the state, Arun Jaitley said, "There are two reasons. One is absence of vigil at the border, which is purely a central issue. The other is unemployment among youth",
When media persons asked queries related to the issue of synthetic drugs, revenue minister Bikram Majithia intervened to say, "You need to get your facts right. There was no synthetic drug recovery from Punjab. Recoveries were made from Himachal Pradesh, Hyderabad, Maharashtra and Delhi (during Sheila Dixit regime). All of these were Congress-ruled states".
Majithia said, "Punjab police busted the entire racket and did a good job. Today, Amarinder Singh is talking about all this. Even Amarinder also at that time had appreciated the effort of Punjab Police. I think he has forgotten this after coming to Amritsar".
CONGRESSMEN JOIN AKALI DAL
During the press conference, some local Congress leaders including Sanjeev Tangri, who had contested the last Municipal Corporation polls, joined the Shiromani Akali Dal.
Along with Tangri, some other Congress leaders who had also contested MC polls, joined SAD.
