Soon a new superfast train will ply between Chandigarh and Amritsar. Also, conceding to the long-pending demand of tricity residents the train will make a stoppage at SAS Nagar and Beas railway stations.
The information was shared by Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu in a statement on Tuesday. He said since long the residents had been demanding a train between Amritsar and Chandigarh with a halt at SAS Nagar and Beas railway stations.
He added that though the construction of track between Ludhiana and Morinda was incomplete, by commencing the Duronto train between Amritsar and Chandigarh via Sirhind the demand was partly met. However, as the train failed to meet the demands of the residents as it did not have a stoppage at SAS Nagar and Beas railway stations.
Bittu said, "Despite the commencement of the Duronto, which later turned into a Superfast Express, the objective remained incomplete due to lack of stoppages at SAS Nagar and Beas stations. We took up the issue with union railway minister Pawan Kumar Basal who had agreed to start another train which would stop at SAS Nagar and Beas railway stations."
Bittu also informed that Bansal had also given nod for the stoppage of existing Superfast Express at Beas.
"With the nod to halt of the train at Beas we are also hopeful of getting the stoppage of the existing train at SAS Nagar railway station accorded," Bittu added.
