Two cases of targeting tourists and NRIs by the miscreants were reported in the city in the last 24 hours.

In the first case, a Malaysia-based NRI couple was robbed by an unidentified woman after they were offered lift by the latter near Hall Gate.

The victims have been identified as Joginder Singh and his wife Harbans Kaur.

Dharamjit Singh, the complainant, a resident of Sultanwind village who claimed to be the couple's nephew, alleged that the accused woman first 'abducted' his aunt and then snatched gold ornaments and cash from her.

He said when the NRI couple was waiting for him near Hall Gate after getting down from bus, the accused approached them saying he had sent her to pick them up.

"The accused made Harbans Kaur sit in the car, but did not allow Joginder Singh to enter inside, saying that there was no space inside. The accused then robbed gold ornaments and cash from Harbans Kaur. A case has been registered against her and efforts are being made to identify and arrest her," said E-Division police station SHO Sarabjit Singh.

He said the couple frequently visited the city.

A case in this regard has been registered against the unidentified woman under Sections 365/382/120-B of the IPC against the accused.

In another case, the gold ornaments of a tourist from Mumbai (west) were stolen by some unidentified persons.

Four unidentified persons in car offered lift to Vidya Maheshwari, a resident of Mumbai (west) and her friend Raj Kumari, near Sangam Chowk on Friday. The victims were going to pay obeisance at a local temple. The accused, including two women, dropped them at Hussainpura Chowk.

"Later on, Vidya Maheshwari discovered some of her gold bangles were missing," said ASI Varinder Kumar, in-charge, bus stand police post. He said a case has been registered against four persons, including two women, under Section 379 of the IPC at the A-Division police station.

"Efforts are being made to identify the accused. They will be and arrested soon. Further investigations are on in the matter," he said.

A total of five unidentified persons have been booked.
