The voices of criticism and threats of invoking the Religious Institutions (Prevention of Misuse) Act 1988 only hastened the construction of the controversial 'Operation Bluestar Memorial' which will be dedicated to the Sikh community on Saturday after the 'bhog' ceremony of the 'akhand path' (continuous recitation of prayers).

The octagonal shaped building just adjacent to the historic 'Thara Sahib' gurdwara inside the Golden Temple was completed in a record of 11-months, much ahead of its deadline of June 6, which will be the 29th anniversary of 'Operation Bluestar'.

The memorial was built through 'kar sewa' by the Damdami Taksal, a seminary which Bhindranwale once headed.

The decision to get the memorial built through 'kar sewa' was taken by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandik Committee (SGPC) and Baba Harnam Singh Dhuma, the head of the Taksal, was chosen for the controversial task.

The religious ceremony is expected to be attended by SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar and other senior SGPC members and officials beside Baba Dhuma and members of his Taksal.
