Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Tuesday said People's Party of Punjab (PPP) led by Manpreet Singh Badal posed no threat to the SAD-BJP alliance in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
He said Manpreet tried to join the Congress and then the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), but he was refused entry by both and now he was in the Sanjha Morcha which had no base.
He, however, refused to comment on the prospects of AAP in the coming general elections in Punjab.
He said this while addressing the mediapersons during a Sangat Darshan programme at Kotli Surat Malhi village in Dera Baba Nanak assembly segment, 45 km from here.
Badal said the internal and external security of the country is at stake under the UPA government.
He said the UPA government completely failed on the security front since the law and order situation had deteriorated in the country and the activities of hostile neighbours had increased on the border.
The chief minister said the Congress party had led the country from bad to worse, adding that India experienced unprecedented high inflation due to the wrong economic policies of the UPA government. There was significant rise in poverty, unemployment and corruption under the 10-year "misrule of the UPA government", he added.
Badal said the Congress was going to face a humiliating defeat in the 2014 general elections and it was the reason it was not naming its prime ministerial candidate fearing the worst. After undergoing a crushing defeat at the hands of the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi assembly polls, former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dixit's political career virtually came to an end, he said.
"Rahul Gandhi is in no way fit for the post of prime minister as he does not have the experience of running even a government department as a minister," he said.
The Congress-led UPA, he asserted, was trying to befool the country by taking decisions like one rank one pension just a few days before the announcement of the general elections and there was no possibility of these decisions getting implemented.
Badal said he was not against Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu's contesting election in the 2014 general elections. He said that Both SAD and BJP took their party decisions separately without interfering in each other's matters.
The anti-Sikh riots in Delhi, he claimed, were the result of a planned conspiracy by the Congress which the Sikh community would never forgive.
Badal said the sangat darshan programme was an effective tool for local development, besides strengthening the bond between the government and the people. The chief minister released developmental grants of Rs 1 to 5 lakh for 288 panchayats of Dhariwal, Kalanaur and Dera Baba Nanak blocks in the Dera Baba Nanak assembly constituency.
