In a major breakthrough, the Amritsar police arrested two persons, including a woman, with 1 kg heroin on Wednesday. The contraband is worth Rs 5 crore in the international market.
The accused were identified as Rani, resident of Majitha Road and Arun Sharma, resident of Katra Khazana.
The duo was apprehended by a police team led by inspector Kuldeep Singh, in charge, narcotic cell, from a police check post on the Mehta Road.
Sikander, an accomplice of the accused, and resident of Nangli village, managed to abscond.
Addressing mediapersons on Wednesday, Amritsar police commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh, said, “The accused were wanted in other such cases as well. A case under Sections 21, 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the Maqboolpura police station.”
Meanwhile, the police also recovered 1 kg intoxicants from two persons identified as Balwinder Singh and Gurjinder Singh, both residents of Hawelian village.
A case under Sections 21, 29, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused at the Sadar police station.
The police also seized 20 drums of alcohol (4,000 litres) from four persons identified as Amrik Singh alias Raju, resident of Sultanwind, Gurmail Singh alias Gela, resident of Maluwal village, Davinder Deep Singh, resident of Chheharta and Satnam Singh alias Satta, resident of Anngarh.
“The alcohol was to be used in the production of liquor. A case under Sections 15, 21, 22, 27-A, 29, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act and 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act has been registered against the accused at the Sultanwind police station,” said police commissioner Aulakh.
