Former state minister Tota Singh today claimed that the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) would sweep the upcoming zila parishad and block samiti elections that are scheduled for May 19.
Tota Singh, who is ruling party's observer for Gurdaspur district in the elections, was addressing a press conference here on Saturday.
He said since all villagers would want to see their respective villages developed, they were most likely to elect ruling party candidates and asserted that people of the state already had faith in the policies and programmes of the SAD.
He claimed that the rank and file of the SAD in Gurdaspur was united which would guarantee victory of party candidates.
Several other senior SAD leaders from the district including local MLA and chief parliamentary secretary Gurbachan Singh Babbehali, former Punjab ministers Sewa Singh Sekhwan, Sucha Singh Langah and Capt Balbir Singh Bath, former Punjab Vidhan Sabha speaker Nirmal Singh Kahlon and Srihargobindpur MLA Des Raj Dhugga were also present on the occasion.
