A day after the Congress candidate Amarinder Singh termed Arun Jaitley as an ‘outsider’, the BJP candidate hit back by asking Amarinder to explain, "which state in India does Sonia Gandhi belongs to?"
“I am very much a Punjabi. I would like Capt to tell which state in India deos Sonia Gandhi belong's to,” said Jaitley while hitting back.
His remark was an indirect reference to the issue of Sonia Gandhi's nationality, which the BJP had raised in earlier past.
The BJP candidate using cyber route said, “The Congress candidate from Amritsar, Captain Sahib, has still not come to the constituency. Regrettably, he is resorting to his old USP, lower the level of debate through “personalized and discourteous language”.
I have to resist the temptation of reciprocating in the same manner. However, a polite response is necessary.”
“Despite my ancestral roots in Punjab, Captain Sahib called me an “outsider” and a “pseudo” Punjabi Would be kind enough to tell me which state in India does Sonia Gandhi belongs to?”
Further having a dig at Amarinder by accusing him of inaccessible, Jaitley said, “Captain Sahib further wants to know if after winning from Amritsar, will I shift to Amrtisar? Surely, I will have both an office and residential base in Amritsar, but will he ever be available to the people of Amritsar at all.
Past experience shows that he has been inaccessible not only to the people but also to his own party leaders including his ministers. His availability is only for a few hours since otherwise his palace is always inaccessible to the common man.”
The Senior BJP leader who is making electoral debut had repeatedly tried to establish his local connect by saying that he had his roots in Amritsar and also he had been politically involved with the city.
With Amarinder Singh known for his aggressive style.
The congress candidate launched an offensive at Jaitley on Saturday saying that ‘Jaitley knew nothing about Punjab and also questioned that can he name the assembly segments of the Amritsar Parliamentary constituency.”
