Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Monday said Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has no say in re-nominating BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu from the Amritsar parliamentary constituency for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
"It is a matter concerning the BJP as they are contesting from this seat. We got no say on this. But I want to assure that we will support whoever the BJP nominates from Amritsar," he said, replying to questions by mediapersons after paying obeisance at the Golden Temple in the evening.
Badal's reply came on Sidhu's assertion that his nomination by the BJP from Amritsar would depend on the chief minister.
The former cricketer had gone on record to say that he was willing to give up his claims from Amritsar if Badal desired him to do so. On Sidhu's absence from Narendra Modi's 'Fateh rally' at Jagraon, Badal said no personal invite had been extended to anyone for the rally.
"No one was extended any invitation. It was the duty of every leader, whether of BJP or SAD, to attend the rally as a senior leader was coming to address it," he said in response to Sidhu's claim that as he did not get any personal invite to attend the rally.
