A 60-year-old woman identified as Asha Rani, a resident of Majitha road, committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance, after a neighbour who had borrowed money from her allegedly refused to return it.

The police have recovered a suicide note from the deceased. Her neighbour Lata and Tarsem Kumar, a resident of Katra Khazana, have been booked under sections 306 and 34 of the IPC on a complaint by Asha Rani's husband Parshotam Lal. ASI Charanjit Singh of the Sadar police station said the police were trying to find out how much cash Lata had borrowed from Asha Rani.

"During investigations, it was found that Asha Rani had mortgaged the registry of her house and taken some cash on interest to lend to her neighbour," he said. Efforts are on to nab the accused.
