Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone maker has gathered a lot of attention and popularity in India over the last year. Now, the company is set to release its brand new version of its Android-based operating system, MIUI7 in India at an event in New Delhi on Wednesday. Here are the highlights:
The MIUI 7 is basically Xiaomi’s custom skin on top of Google’s Android Lollipop 5.1. The new OS offers many interesting features like face recognition support in the Gallery, which groups photos by people.
The 750 people in Xiaomi's Research and Development team have also come up with various themes for the OSincluding the pink ‘Goddess’ theme aimed at women.
Another major feature in the MIUI OS is Mi Roaming. It acts as a virtual SIM when you go abroad, and Xiaomi provides you with different packages for the country you’re in. This basically cuts all the hassle of trying to find a new SIM and then replacing your SIM and while doing all of that. Although this feature is available in China for now, this will be a feature that has the potential to become very popular.
Along with the various model announcements including the flagship models like Redmi 2 and Redmi Note, the MIUI 7 is about to make quite a splash.
