Do you think you have the potential to become a hero.. an unconventional one like Irrfan Khan?
I don’t believe in the theory that only lead or supporting actors shape a film. Any character, if etched out well, will make an impact.. like Badshah Khan or Tiger Memon in Black Friday. As for me, all I hope is.. bas achha kaam milna chahiye.
I’ve heard you are lobbying for lead roles now.
(Haha) Not true. I’m an uncomplicated man, with no intention or finesse to play games. I don’t even meet producers. Any other actor wouldn’t miss out on an opportunity to meet producers, requesting them, coaxing them to getting a role. Main bohut lazy hoon in maamlo mein.
Have you been stormed with offers after Black Friday?
( Laughs )Not really. I’ve been busy but it’s not as if I’m signing films left, right and centre. There are some offers but they don’t interest me particularly. Black Friday came at the right time.. I guess at a time when quality cinema has begun to be seen and appreciated. The only film that I have right now is Mohandas. It’s directed by Mazhar Kamran.. he had shot Satya, which was my first big break in films.
I believe Paanch is being taken over by UTV?
Yes, I had heard about that. I guess talks have been going on.. but I don’t know what is the progress on that. As an actor, I just hope Paanch releases.. it’s become such a jinxed project.
Why do you choose to act in films like Dil se pooch kidhar jaana hai and Raakh?
I take up films that I believe in. Dil se.. was a lead role. Raakh is yet to be released. It’s another subject that I liked.
Do you intend to quit the TV series, CID, soon?
I’ve been a part of CID for over seven years. In fact, when I was signed up for it, I was only supposed to do 13 episodes. Later it became 26. The producers told me that they’d film a special episode showing me killed, if I ever decide to quit. Today, CID is in its 472 nd episode. I still get excited about it, as I was on day one. Every month, I keep aside 20-25 days for CID.
